Who We Are

The Cayton Children’s Museum is a nonprofit organization that activates the power of PLAY to enrich the lives of children and families, strengthen and connect communities, and build a better world. Throughout the year, we offer a range of arts and cultural activities for children 0-8,

Beyond museum walls, we bring outlets for play and creative expression into local neighborhoods through our community outreach program, Cayton-on-the-Go.

ABOUT

About Cayton-on-the-Go

Cayton-on-the-Go is a mobile museum program created to bring the arts to children and families in our local community who may not have ready access to the museum.

We partner with nonprofit and community-based organizations across LA County to host creativity free workshops for children (ages 2–8) and families enrolled in or receiving their services. Through interactive storytelling, music, movement games, and process-based artmaking, our workshops encourage children to grow from Cayton’s core principle of “playing our way to a better world.” And because inclusion is at the heart of everything the Cayton does, our Cayton-on-the-Go projects can be enjoyed by a wide range of ages and abilities, empowering little ones to work independently or in cooperation with their grown-ups.

Our team of early childhood educators develops four unique lesson plans every quarter to align with the seasonal themes, values, and programming offered within the museum. From stimulating sensory experiences to engaging stories and inventive art projects, Cayton-on-the-Go helps ensure that more kids in our community can experience the transformational benefits of play.

CURRNT THEMES

Current Themes

Sculpting Winter Wonder
We’re creating in a winter wonderland when we sculpt,
shape, and even taste fluffy “snow.”

Building Imagination

Taking a page from Andrea Beaty’s Iggy Peck, Architect, we’re drawing up our own blueprints before building sky’s-the-limit structures out of recycled materials.

Keeping Family Traditions
The only thing better than making new family memories is finding a way to keep them. Come create a photo album worthy of holding all of your meaningful family traditions.

Celebrating Black History
In honor of the indelible work of Black artists like Alma
Woodsey Thomas and Jean-Michel Basquiat, we’ll use
mixed media to create our own portraits, capturing the
qualities of ourselves (or someone else) that we wish to
remember forever.
